Major issue that comes up frequently in later model Australian Ford territory and falcons is the degradation of the bushing or grommet around the transmission selector arm. These will fall apart at the most inconvenient time possible - usually when you away from home, in an expensive car park. Trust me… The traditional quick fix is a piece of hose and zip ties, but these could last a day or a week. The clone of these from China usually take weeks and weeks to arrive, or you could pay $$$ for one right away, assuming it is the right one. There is also the option to get under the car, remove the entire cable and replace that, or the lever arm to the transmission, bore a hole, and replace with a bolt - which will last but over time wear away on the plastic control connection. Another quick fix indeed. Instead, print a replacement - at least till the knockoff arrives! The photo shows it printed in black ABS, and Black TPU (hence the zits), next to the grey clone version to demonstrate dimensional accuracy. I also flattened the bottom to help it stand, changed the indents and altered a few other things to aid in printability. Here is two for you to use. Best printed in a heat-resistant material that gives a bit of flex - TPU provides the perfect amount of flex, but not sure of its heat resistance long term. Short term it is fine. Print a couple out to keep in the car for emergencies to get you going. You will need some lubricant and pliers, things I always keep in the car anyway, you know, just in case… Plenty of videos on the internet - and ones which show you how best to install it too! p.s. you don't need a special tool, pliers or vice grips with a cloth for protection is more than sufficient to set the bushing into the connector. This should also work in other vehicles with ZF gearboxes and the ‘dura’ connector. I printed mine in TPU for the original without slits. The version with slits should be able to be printed in another more rigid material with enough give to be inserted - PETG should work though I havent tested. You could also print it out to use as a mold for silicon. 100% infill no supports needed (very small bridging) Recommend printing it in the finest detail you can muster depending on your material Fusion 360 files included.
