This phone mount is inspired by the Universal tripod phone mount designed by neyfrota, however I designed the model from scratch in OpenSCAD with the aim to make it more versatile and stronger. Mount it on a tripod, place it on a table or hang it on the wall with a hook or with that stretchy double sided 3M tape. This narrow tripod mount is able to grip your phone in the little free space available on the sides. Attach the mount to a tripod with the standard ¼-20 UNF tripod thread underneath or on the back of the mount. Special USB cable grips in the foot or under the screw knob to lock the USB cable in place and protect the phone USB port from any strain. On the back of the mount is a recessed screw slot so it can be securely hung on the wall by means of a screw or nail. Alternatively snap on the base which adds the ability to tilt the camera or pan if you are a caveman and use the camera in portrait whish should be illegal. The base also has the recessed screw slot or can be permanently attached by means of screws or tape. I am particularly pleased with the way the hinge is implemented. The concentric rings place the pivot point at the camera and the large friction area has no trouble to maintain the set angle. This phone mount can be printed without any supports. It is super easy to print in whatever material you like. Recommended layer height is around 0.2mm due to the screw thread. Most smartphone webcam solutions rely on wifi and streaming technology to get video to your PC which isn't optimal in terms of quality, resolution and frame-rate. However there is a solution where you can connect your smartphone via a long USB cable which then takes care of both charging and reliable data transmission. After trying many different solutions, I have found this to be by far the best approach. So, your phone sends video to the OBS program via the droidcam plugin. OBS in turn will present this video feed as a virtual camera device on your computer and that can be connected to every video app imaginable. Zoom, Skype you name it. I have had 3 old Android phones and an Android tablet working simultaneously at 1080p resolution on a middle of the road Asus laptop without any issues and CPU load still under 30%. Essentially it was a complete studio with live switching between cameras. I have nothing to do with the people who made this software but the excellent performance of their software led me to design this phone holder.
